This shoe was worn by Grade I winning stallion Aldebaran during his sixth place finish in the 2003 Breeders' Cup Sprint. Aldebaran then went on to stand at stud at Darby Dan Farm. Aldebaran was victorious in the Grade I Forego Handicap, Grade 2 Tom Fool Handicap, Grade I Metropolitan Handicap, Grade 2 Churchill Downs Handicap, and Grade I San Carlos Handicap.
The oak plaque upon which the shoe is mounted is handmade by retired jockey, Jack Neagle, in the Darby Dan woodshop. The wood comes from a pin oak tree planted under the direction of E.R. Bradley (Idle Hour Farm - circa 1906) and recovered by Darby Dan Farm after a storm in 2009.
The plaque measures 7x11" and is equipped with a sawtooth hanging unit. The mounted shoe is accompanied by a certificate of authentication from Owner John Phillips.
